According to Robert Maricich, president and ceo of the World Market Center (WMC) in Las Vegas, to help the home fashions industry ring in the new decade, themes like strength, power and optimism will reign supreme at the winter market, Feb. 1-5, 2010.

“Those in attendance will have succeeded in an historically competitive economy, and the Las Vegas Market will celebrate that while addressing how retailers can not only survive, but thrive in 2010,” says Maricich. “In addition to a strong display of new products, Las Vegas’ February market will be a meaningful exchange of the latest trends, research, business strategies and inspirations that benefits all facets of the trade—retailers, designers and suppliers. The content will be highly relevant to those who are ‘playing to win’ and looking for new competitive advantages in today’s marketplace.”

The WMC is also partnering with the Western Home Furnishings Association (WHFA) to produce a dynamic “Academy Series” which is being married to the popular “Business Survival” series and will take place Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday during Las Vegas Market at 4:30 p.m., followed by a reception.

As for what 2010 will bring the WMC, Maricich expects to see results. “At a time when all businesses require introspection and must challenge themselves to create more value, the WMC is proud to embark on strategic decisions that, based on input from many of our manufacturers, have the potential to optimize sales for their business and expand their channels of distribution,” he says.

Business aside, it looks like the newest introductions are also putting on a strong display, with traditional and contemporary looks toned down in traditional color palettes.

The Italian Delphi Collection from SDH Enterprises consists of two jacquard patterns, Delphi and Santorini, which feature sweeping abstract florals with a marbled effect and two percales: Capri Percale and Channel Stripe. In addition, SDH is introducing a new cover, Corfu, which is a geometric pattern, machine washable Italian mattelasse. In particular, SDH notes its Capri Percale, which is a luxurious long staple Egyptian cotton spun in Italy into a super fine twisted yarn that is then dyed using only eco-friendly low impact dyes.

For a natural look with a green product, Softline’s Bamboo curtains are made from 100 percent matchstick bamboo, part of Softline’s Evidence of Evolution line of eco-friendly products. It is available as an 84-inch panel and a 72- by 12-inch valance in oak and walnut colorways.

Innovations to basic bedding will also debut at market. The DreamFit™ Quilted Sheet Ensemble is a clever combination: a top sheet and a “sleeping weight” blanket quilted together in a one-piece design.

Blissliving Home’s Paradise Duvet Set.
Floral throw pillows from Manual Woodworkers and Weavers’ Festival of Flowers Collection.

The top sheet/blanket is then accompanied by a fitted sheet featuring the patented DreamFit™ technology and two reversible pillowcase shams. The reversible pillowcase shams provide a traditional pillowcase side for comfort and sleeping. The quilted sham side may be turned up for fashion. Two Quilted Sheet collections are offered; Bamboo and Tencel in a variety of colors.

For happier, healthier people, Natura World has obtained exclusive rights to manufacture and distribute MediWedge™ bed foundations in North America. MediWedge™ is a patented technology designed to improve sleep health with an incline towards the head of the bed, using gravity to reduce sleep disturbances such as Gastroesophigal Reflux Disease and help open airways for deeper, easier breathing. This foundation allows consumers to improve health while sleeping on the mattress of their choice.

Perfect Fit’s Perfectly Natural Foam pillow is 100 percent latex and also caters to those looking for a better sleep. The pillow performs four ways: it conforms to any sleep position with a breakthrough design, it’s cool to the touch, it’s comfortable and it uses latex derived from natural origins, making it a natural product, harvested from renewable forests.

The Paradise Duvet Set from Blissliving Home features screen-printed tropical leaves on a 300-thread-count cotton sateen. Design details include button duvet closures and envelope sham closures. The overall look offers both a soft transitional and a regional look.

Spring 2010 will mark the 25th anniversary of the Festival of Flowers at the Biltmore Estate, a National Historic Landmark in Asheville, NC. Manual Woodworkers and Weavers’ limited-edition textiles reflect the beauty of the gardens and the grand heritage of the historic estate. Each floral design is a replica of the banners that will be displayed in the entrance hall of Biltmore™ House during the 2010 Festival of Flowers event. The new Festival of Flowers Collection is comprised of a woven tapestry runner, wall hanging, throw and two reversible pillows.

Emdee International’s Orchidia and Jenica linen pillows are the newest additions to its hand embroidered and appliquéd Diem Collection. The background is 100 percent linen and the pillow is oversized which makes a great botanical statement in any decor.

C&F Enterprises’ Devon Moss design by Williamsburg is cotton-filled, prewashed in luxury oversized, available in a complete bedding ensemble. It’s also available in a quilted tabletop.

Running with the ever-popular floral motif, Robert Allen’s Scenic Flora offers a fresh and vibrant floral print in a linen blend. It’s golden colorway adds energy to the traditional floral.

Woven Workz’s new throw, Jubilee, is a poly/acrylic blend, available in cream, blue, sky, camel, red, willow and chocolate. The pom-pom fringe adds a festive touch.

For a splash of exotic design, from Liora Manne’s Lamontage™ line and TransOcean Rugs, the Java Diamond rug is ethnic in design, but rooted in traditional colors like indigo.

The contemporary Night Music rug from Foreign Accents is hand-tufted and hand-carved in India from 100 percent New Zealand wool. Its energetic pattern is toned down in soft shades of white, grey, mulberry and cranberry on a deep black background.

Amity Home’s Black and White bedding is hand-made of soft, pure cotton with an easy-care finish that ensures that the bedding emerges smooth and soft from the dryer, and eliminates the need for ironing. Interior corner ties keep the duvet in place.

For 2010, Donna Sharp® continues her growth in the industry by creating a style of patchwork that combines her established line, while making it more affordable for today’s consumer. The new large square design is includes 12 different sizes of squares and rectangles perfectly placed at varying angles, allowing the color to make a maximum impact in the room while the interesting piecing makes a fun, but bold statement.  Available in seven different colorways, the modern black and white is a way to incorporate a little unexpected edge to a country style.

Étoffe Makara’s Arronde Bedding Collection features its signature pairing of a velvet and dupioni silk with faux-wolf fur accents. This bedding is more tonal than usual for Étoffe Makara, yet a little sparkle is maintained with delicately applied gold ink and Swarovski crystals. For this market, the company will showcase more transitional bedding ensembles with several raw silk bedding ensembles for contemporary tastes.

Pom Pom at Home’s newest product is its Louwie Organic Duvet, a 100 percent certified organic duvet that is machine washable and dryable. The duvet comes with a lightly wrinkled finish for a lived-in comfortable feel.

Daniel Stuart Studio’s Ashley Floral Sienna Bed is the latest trend in fashion bedding. Romantic florals in rich colors and velvety textures offer consumers a way to sleep on a bed of roses time and again.
