Exaggerated colors and patterns have found their way to the water
The appearance of beach towels on retailer’s shelves hallmarks the arrival of a new season to shop for—summer, where designs reflect the positive and relaxed memories of vacations, outside gatherings and other excitement that the warm weather delivers.
For the upcoming summer season, Cobra/Espalma predicts that strong animal prints and flashy colors that mimic the bright flowers of the jungle will be popular for beach accessories. Cobra’s Sand Box collection of 100 percent cotton jacquard beach towels features a ribbed center and contrasting border. Border motifs include parasol, sun, anchor and turtle and come in royal, white and periwinkle, made in Brazil.
Luxury beach towels from Christy are perfect for swim class or to have ready in the bathroom for a bright start in the morning. Neon colors and funky shapes like overlapping polka dots for the Antigua towel make for an energetic pattern.
Made in Brazil, Döhler’s beach towels from its Tropical Collection are 100 percent cotton reactive printed terry velour. The enlarged hibiscus print in vivid red-on-red tones gives the classic tropical flower a jazzy makeover.
For those who like geometric designs, the Aqua Collection by Kassatex featuring oversized 100 percent Egyptian-cotton jacquard velour towels is a perfect match. Three different geometric patterns are available in ocean, fuchsia and orange.
Vossen goes for an adventurous motif with its Marine Collection. Red and navy blue towels feature single images of an anchor, a pirate skull and cross bones, and a shark and a sailboat on crashing waves. Stripes and solids, and reversible towels rounds out the collection.
Katy Keen, British designer and founder of Katy Keen, LLC creates designs that are funny and comical in hot pinks, sunny yellows and other electric hues. Her beach towel designs for Revere Mills include the “Aloha Rubber Ducky,” a print that showcases varieties of rubber duckies dressed as hula dancers in Hawaiian shirts. Beach umbrellas that seem to dance off into the sunset and dolphins are two other designs that demonstrate her signature playfulness.
From swimsuits to towels, summer is all about expressing your personal style and flair. Loftex continues to bring forth designs and concepts that reflect the current trends in fashion, home and lifestyle. For their beach ’09 line, Loftex’s Enchanting Dreams Collection juxtaposes a variety of images, colors and constructions to create a Marie Antoinette meets Midsummer’s Night Dream combined with modern pop art mid-century through a looking glass effect. Hues of purple, brown, green, gray and blue become a little dusty and become beet, sparrow, sugar snap green, chiffon pink, drizzle and sapphire, paired with bold, oversized images in vibrant colors that pop.
From whimsical to humorous, designs for beach towels run the gamut to satisfy every beach-goer’s tastes.
