New offerings in a range of product categories on view during the Atlanta Market at AmericasMart in July

AmericasMart will be filled to the brim with fresh resources during The Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market, July 11 to 18, 2012 (temporaries from July 13 to 17) and The Atlanta International Area Rug Market, July 12 to 15, 2012 (see “Setting The Pace” beginning on p. 8 for rugs debuting at the Atlanta and Las Vegas Markets).

In addition to new products, a wealth of special events, displays and seminars are available to AmericasMart visitors during market. Here are highlights:

  • July 11, 5:30 p.m: Join designer Barclay Butera in the Nourison showroom, Building 1, 3-F-2, for an evening of dining, dancing and merriment. Arrive early and receive a copy of his new book, Living on the Coast.
  • July 12, 2 to 6 p.m: In the Temporaries, enjoy the preview party for HD Home, a juried collection of home furnishings. Building 1, Floor 1 – Center Hall.
  • July 13, 11:30 am. to 12:30 p.m.: Interior designer Laurie Hickson-Smith presents “The Final Touch in Home Décor,” focusing on how to design rooms starting with fabulous floor coverings. Building 1, Floor 4.
  • July 13, 1 to 2 p.m.: Trend forecaster Jamie Thomas discusses “Interior Forecasts for Fall and Winter 2013,” a projection of design keys influencing interior décor focusing on consumer behavior and drivers like materials, color, patterns, hardlines, softlines, fixtures and lighting.   • July 13, 3 to 4 p.m: Jillian Harris from ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, presents “Designing With Personality,” revealing how design trends converge with personal experiences in designing a home with personality. Building 1, Floor 14, Seminar Room.
  • July 14, 3 to 4 p.m.: Interior designer Kerry Howard presents “Kerapy,” in which he shares insights on how to rejuvenate a home by incorporating color and accessories. Building 1, Floor 14, Seminar Room.
  • Drinks by Design: Buyers can enjoy complimentary beverages on the Home floors. July 13, 2 p.m., Floors 9, 11 and 13. July 14, 2 p.m., Floors 10,12 and 14.
  • The Temporaries are located throughout the AmericasMart campus in designated, easily shopped collections. Among the highlights for July: The Made in America Collection expands to meet the growing consumer demand for products produced in the U.S.; a reinvigorated Pampered Pets category helps buyers capitalize on the multi-billion dollar pet industry.
  • The Icon Honors 2012 celebration is held July 14 at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. Cocktails will be served at 7 p.m.; the dinner and presentation begin at 7:30 p.m. Honors are presented to home and gift retailers, manufacturers, sales agents and service providers from across the industry. Comedian, television and radio personality, and author Jeff Foxworthy takes the stage, and Grammy-winning singer/songwriter and guitarist Kenny Loggins steps into the AmericasMart spotlight as featured musical entertainer. Motor Robe
The “motor robe” is an updated name for the“steamer rug” blanket that kept train, boat and horse-drawn carriage passengers warm and cozy. Broward and Furlet Join AmericasMart

AmericasMart has appointed Douglas Broward and Mark Furlet to senior vice-president positions.

Douglas Broward fills the newly created office of AMC senior vice-president/Branding, a key position created to help accelerate and expand AmericasMart’s growth in the global trade show/trade mart arena. Broward will create and sustain AmericasMart brand continuity across all shows, markets and business lines through all marketing communications channels and in the AmericasMart on-site brand presence.

Previously, Broward had served as chief creative officer at Grizzard Advertising, which is part of the global advertising and marketing firm Omnicom Group.

Mark Furlet has been named senior vice-president/Leasing for Building One Home category permanent showrooms. Furlet joins AmericasMart from dual appointments at the Chicago Merchandise Mart, where he served as vice-president in charge of all gift and home business, and at the L.A. Mart, where he held the position of vice-president and general manager responsible for the L.A. Mart, the L.A. Mart Design Center and California Gift Show brands. In his dual capacities, Furlet served on the Marts’ parent company Merchandise Mart Properties Inc. (MMPI) leadership team.


Ann Gish Opens Showroom
At AmericasMart

Ann Gish has moved to its new showroom at 9-A-5 in Building One, the approximately 1,200-square-foot space the company had occupied for a decade more than a decade ago.

“I decided to do this lease because after three very, very exciting markets at HD Home in the same building, I felt that the AmericasMart was really ramping up and that the timing for a longer-term commitment was completely ripe,” says owner Ann Gish. “This market is vision-driven by Mr. Portman and his excellent team.
