Messe Frankfurt Launches Home Textiles Fabric Sourcing Expo

Messe Frankfurt, Inc. debuts the Home Textiles Fabric Sourcing Expo (HTFSE) in cooperation with The Sub-Council of Textile Industry, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT TEX). The event will be co-located with Texworld USA, which is also produced by Messe Frankfurt, and will run from July 13 to 15, 2010 at New York’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

The goal of HTFSE is to provide manufacturers, retailers, jobbers, converters, contract specifiers and designers with a one-stop sourcing venue. According to Messe Frankfurt, industry feedback and a high level of interest from suppliers led to the decision to create the event focused on fabric and material sourcing for home applications, such as linens, towels, pillows, window coverings and other home accents.

Existing North American home textile shows center around primarily finished goods for sale to retailers or are an offshoot of a furniture-focused event. Known for its annual Heimtextil event in Germany, Messe Frankfurt does not have a similar event in North America and believes the HTFSE is a step towards filling the void and providing opportunities for its global customer base.

The event is being launched in partnership with CCPIT TEX, the leading exhibition organizer for the textile and apparel industry in China. CCPIT TEX will be supporting a contingent of manufacturers from China, with Messe Frankfurt organizing contingents from other key textile manufacturing centers.

HTFSE debuts co-located alongside Texworld USA, the largest apparel fabric trade show in North America. The two events will continue to co-locate each summer in the future.

Innovative Natural Fibers Debut At TexStyles India

The 16th edition of TexStyles India, held Feb. 24-27, 2010, at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi and organized by India Trade Promotion Organization, offered visitors from 86 countries a variety of goods made with fibers often derived from natural elements.

Approximately 165 exhibitors displayed fabrics, furnishings, accessories, fibers, yarns and textile gift items, while special exhibits like the Trend Forum, Theme Pavilion, Fabric Folio and Designers’ Gallery showcased new fiber and fabric innovations. Several companies displayed innovative products made from kora grass, paper, coir and bamboo, camel hair, alpaca and yak hair, and fibers derived from soybeans.

Pure Weave showed a new 42-48 count fiber processed from powdered cow and sheep milk, woven into delicate stoles and usable for carpets and durries.

Handloom and Handicrafts Exports Corp. displayed several products made with banana fiber, which is high in oil content, does not absorb moisture and is resistant to termites and fungus.

Oak Forest Silk featured a temperate tussar silk produced from silk worms that feed on oak leaves in the high-altitude forests of the Garhwal Himalayas. Oak forest silk is highly textured, durable and occurs in a range of natural colors from off white to golden yellow.

With the recent investment of more than $25 billion in state-of-the art manufacturing plants and processing technology by the Indian government, more entrepreneurs and manufacturers are being encouraged to experiment with new fibers and weaving techniques to keep India at the top of the world textiles map.
TexStyles India 2011 will be held at the Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, India, from March 2 to 5, 2011. Visit texstylesindia.com for details.—by Maitreyee B. Angelo
