Showtime Smorgasbord

High Point’s semi-annual fabric and trim market goes beyond trendy to offer designs that complement every home furnishing style
 |
| Mokum’s Modern Maroc Collection, inspired by Moroccan culture, includes intricately patterned drapery and silk jacquards as well as woven upholstery fabric. The Mokum studio, based in Sydney, Australia, seeks to celebrate its view of the world through interior design and is challenged by interpreting other cultures into an antipodean aesthetic. |
It’s time to shop for fabrics and trimmings again as manufacturers and suppliers reveal their freshly designed wares during High Point’s semi-annual fabric market, Showtime. Produced by members of the International Textile Market Association, the event runs from Sunday, Dec. 6 to Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009.
Just as consumers increasingly crave personalization in products and services, so now suppliers are focusing less on following trends and more on doing either that for which they are best known or what is fresh and different for them. Scan the sampling of fabrics and trims in this article and you’ll see no preponderance of one particular style or color.
What is a “given” today is that a growing number of companies have as a staple or are introducing a line of eco-friendly products. Captured here are some of the latest “green” introductions, such as the 100 percent naturally organic wools from the Lady 2010 Collection that are Oeko-Tex certified and created in an eco-conscious ISO9001 vertically integrated textile mill.
Big Kahuna’s Artisan Collection is made in the U.S. from recycled cotton yarns. And Carnegie offers the Bright Side Collection, woven from post-consumer polyester and finished with Cradle-to-Cradle certified Nano-Tex® Resist Stains and antimony free, 100 percent polyester barrier, Durablock. Those finishes insure that the fabric can be recycled in the future while also allowing for long-term superior performance.
Duralee has partnered with interior designer, Clodagh, to introduce the first designer collection of earth-friendly textiles for the home. Clodagh, who has been licensing product for more than a decade, is known for her commitment to the green movement.
The Global Passage Collection incorporates a range of materials, from organic cottons to recycled polyesters and renewable bamboo to offer a high-end look within the environment-friendly philosophy.
So, end the year at Showtime and select from a cornucopia of new ideas to inspire 2010 sales.
