Forward reaching looks in area and accent rugs on display during New York Home Fashions Market, Sept. 23 to 26, 2013

Surya New line extensions are added to the Alfresco Collection, which is crafted in Egypt and machine made with 100 percent polypropylene. The indoor/outdoor rugs are stain, humidity and uv resistant. Shown are two of the new designs in the grouping.
Kaleen The Nomad Collection consists of flat weave reversible rugs made with 100 percent wool.
Momeni The Mirage Collection showcases distressed patterning in unexpected color combinations. The rugs are machine-made in India with eucalyptus tree fiber. Designs are shown in green (right) and navy (below).
Shaw Living Hydrangea is from the Bob Timberlake by Shaw Living Collection. The machine-woven grouping, made in the U.S. with Shaw’s EverTouch® recyclable nylon, features designs inspired by the South, the Southwest and historical references in two space-dyed palettes.
Dynamic Rugs The Lounge Collection includes rugs handmade in India with 100 percent wool. In addition, the company announces that it is the first in the industry to introduce rugs made in 100 percent viscose with a combination of cut and loop. They also claim to be first in the industry to introduce chenille viscose rugs with a two-color background in the chenille area created with new technology adapted from loom weaving. Both “firsts” add inventive, artistic elements to its offerings.
Kas Rugs Made in China, the long-standing Colonial Wool Petit Point Collection of handmade hooked rugs features eight new designs available in nine sizes from scatter to large room, including rounds, ovals and runner. Shown is the Midnite Damask Floral design. The company is also launching new constructions in flatweaves, machine wovens, naturals, and other handmade rugs for the upcoming fall markets, including N.Y. Home Fashions Market and High Point Market. Currently shipping is a new catalog supplement.
Harounian Rugs International (HRI) The Metro Collection offers geometric patterns, such as diamonds, circles and kissing clovers, that embody contemporary sophistication. Hand-crafted in India, the collection rugs are available in 5- by 8 and 8- by 11-foot sizes.

Metro Market Week
October 2013

Metro Market Week in New York and New Jersey celebrates its 10th anniversary and runs Monday, Oct. 7 to Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013.

Established by New York and New Jersey-based wholesalers in 2004, the market event invites buyers to explore resources in the rug firms’ home showrooms, rather than in an off-site facility.

Products spanning all segments of the industry, from hand-knotted and hand-tufted rugs to machine-made options and fine antiques will be exhibited. Exhibitors include Harounian Rugs International (HRI), Kalaty, Momeni, Nourison, Safavieh and Tufenkian Artisan Carpets.

The New York International Carpet Show (NYICS) takes place Oct. 6 to 8, 2013 in the Metropolitan Pavilion at 125 West 18th St., during Metro Market Week and includes approximately 40 exhibitors.

Ebisons Harounian Imports The Expressions Collection includes 100 percent wool rugs with silk accents produced in a 9/25 Tibetan weave and hand-knotted in India. The collection’s four new transitional and contemporary designs are offered in four different colors and in 6- by 9-, 8- by 10- and 9- by 12-foot sizes.
Oriental Weavers Oriental Weavers introduces seven new print collections featuring heavy loops and high-density designs, including Bliss (shown above). Additionally, five woven collections showcase textural microfiber polyester with frieze accents. One of these is the Parker Collection, a design from which is shown at right, that displays a textured hand and high/low chenille. Also on view at the Oriental Weavers showroom are a variety of indoor/outdoor, scatter and utility rugs.

For Expansion

Oriental Weavers USA, a subsidiary of the Oriental Weavers Group, has begun a global rebranding initiative with strategic expansion plans, enhanced distribution and increased production capabilities in the U.S.

“By merging our various brands, Oriental Weavers USA is positioned for the continued growth that is critical for our long-term success,” says Mike Riley, president, Oriental Weavers USA. “Our area rug brands have been managed by our team under one corporate umbrella for quite some time and now with all the exciting expansion plans and new marketing and product initiatives, such as the launch of our new Pantone Universe line of rugs, we felt like it was the perfect time to make our cohesive rebranding official.”

As part of this effort, a new logo was created using modern fonts and colors to reflect the fashion-forward reputation the company has earned over the years, while visually tying in with the OW Hospitality logo identity. The new brand identity can be seen in advertising, in the newly revamped company website at and other marketing initiatives.

Tufenkian Artisan Carpets The Organic Designs Series features deconstructed, fluid, contemporary patterns with faint hints of shimmer. The tonal and textured rugs combine wool, silk and linen. Shown is Desert Smoke.

Safavieh Relocates New York City Wholesale Showroom To Broadway Flagship

Safavieh has relocated its New York City wholesale showroom to 902 Broadway at 20th St. (shown). It will present a complete range of new cross-category home products at the expanded space during the New York Home Fashions Market, Sept. 23-26, 2013, as well as a broad selection of new hand-knotted, hand-tufted and machine made rugs during Metro Market Week, Oct. 7-10, 2013.

The company recently closed its wholesale rug showroom, which had been at 153 Madison Ave. since the company opened its doors in New York City 35 years ago. “As we grew into a total home source, our rug showroom was not capable of presenting the new Safavieh lifestyle story,” says Arash Yaraghi, a Safavieh principal. “In the past five years we have diversified our product mix to include accent furniture and seating, lighting, decorative pillows, wall art and outdoor furnishings in addition to programmed and custom area rugs. Our new location allows us to present total decorating concepts to retailers in one fully cross-merchandised space.”

Safavieh’s 902 Broadway location is the flagship store in the company’s Safavieh Home Furnishings retail chain. With 45,000 square feet on three floors, the store caters to designers and consumers with its own branded furniture and rugs, in addition to carrying a full line of luxury furniture and accessories brands.
The new 5,000-square-foot wholesale showroom has been designed as a separate unit within the store. The combined spaces will provide customers with a better understanding of what Safavieh has to offer.

Treasure Garden Debuts Collection
Of Outdoor Rugs

Treasure Garden, Baldwin Park, CA-based manufacturer of outdoor umbrella, shade and accessory products, debuts the Treasure Garden Outdoor Rug Collection at the International Casual Furniture and Accessories Market, which takes place in the Chicago Merchandise Mart, Sept. 16 to 20, 2013 in Chicago, IL. Treasure Garden Outdoor Rugs present a range of weather-resistant styles and colorations to coordinate with the company’s umbrellas as well as casual furnishings across the industry.

Nourison Waverly By Nourison includes Sun n’ Shade indoor/outdoor rugs in a variety of designs machine-printed on 100 percent polyester. Marin (shown), like all the rugs in the collection, is uv protected, mildew proof and fade resistant.
Kalaty The Soumak Natural Collection includes double-sided, flat-weave Soumak rugs hand-crafted with primarily undyed wools. They are a suitable selection for those seeking a sustainable option. The transitional pattern shown is rendered in on-trend tones of grey.
